Export the Source Database
The source database export is performed in a database-independent form at the file system
level. This will allow the data to be imported into the target environment with a different
database by copying the export content to the target system. SAPinst drives both the export
and import procedures. The following sections will describe the export tools, key export
preparatory steps, and the detailed export steps that have to be performed for the heterogen-
eous system copy.
Export Tools
SAPinst is the main tool for performing both the export and import process in a heterogen-
eous system copy. Internally, SAPinst calls R3load for ABAP systems and Jload for Java
systems when performing the export and import steps.
Export Directory
An export directory must be created before starting the SAPinst tool. The export directory
will hold all the export files and will have to be copied to the target system to complete the
