been initiated by your organization's business leadership to comply with SOX regulations.
However, the current operating system is Windows and the systems integrator has standard-
ized their operations around a UNIX-based operating system. In order to migrate current
systems to the systems integrator's datacenter, and to comply with the SOX regulations,
your corporation has initiated a migration project, and it will be performed using heterogen-
eous system copy.
Process Flow of a Heterogeneous System Copy
The key steps when performing a heterogeneous system copy are generating the migration
key, exporting the source system, and installing and importing data into the target system.
Each of these steps will be discussed in detail in the following sections.
Generating the Migration Key
When performing SAP migrations, you need to register and get a migration key from ht-
tps://service.sap.com/migrationkey. Then click the Request Migration Key button as shown
in Figure 28-1 .

You will have to navigate through a few more screens. Click I agree. At the installation
overview screen, pick your installation number (Example: ERP installation), and then
choose Migration Keys - Create Keys. The screen shown in Figure 28-2 appears. Fill out the
form, and click Submit. SAP will generate a migration key for your installation. You will
enter this information during the migration execution using SAPinst.
