Solution Manager Diagnostic
Solution Manager Diagnostic (SMD) and Wily Introscope are installed to enable end-to-end
monitoring and root cause analysis. The SMD system is installed on the central monitoring
system once in the landscape, and SMD agents are installed on the satellite systems that
communicate to the central SMD system. SAPinst is used to install the SMD agent in all the
satellite systems. The illustration shows the installation option for the SMD agent.

SAP SMD agent installation will install the following scripts to start and shut down the
SMD agents at /usr/sap/SMD/J96/script, where 96 is the SMD instance number. You can
start and shut down the SMD agents by executing the following commands as the smdadm
operating system user account:
Wily Introscope
Wily Introscope helps in monitoring and managing Java applications. It consists of a server
component called the Introscope Enterprise Manager, and an Introscope Java agent is in-
stalled on the managed systems. A host-level Introscope agent is installed once per host.
The host agent runs as part of the SMD agent to collect data at the operating system level.
