After these two steps are completed, the operation modes will start executing based on
the timetable. Please note that this switch does not work immediately and you have to wait
for the next window for the operation mode cycle to kick in. You can start the operation
mode manually by using transaction code RZ03. Operation mode switching is recorded in
the system log transaction SM21, as shown. In the illustration, the system log is indicating
that work processes are switched back to the daytime operation mode at 7 a.m. to more dia-
log work processes.

SAP Logon Group
Logon groups help to better balance the end-user requests across different application serv-
ers assigned to the same group. The message server will direct traffic to the least busy ap-
plication server in the logon group. Transaction code SMLG is used to configure the logon
groups. Multiple application servers can be assigned to one logon group. For example, three
application servers can be assigned to a logon group called Sales Logon Group and all sales-
related transactions can be directed to that particular logon group. In transaction SMLG,
new logon groups can be created by pressing the F 8 function key. This will display the
screen shown in Figure 14-9 , where you can create a new logon group and assign an applic-
ation server to it.
