The Czech Republic has a huge Vietnamese population, a leftover from the Communist peri-
od, but their cuisine is virtually unknown, even among Czechs. This simple place tries to put
this right with a menu of exotic ingredients (bamboo shoots, oyster sauce, cashew nuts, bean
curd) and the staple dish - pho bo soup. Mains 140-270Kč. Mon-Fri 10.30am-11pm, Sat &
Sun 11.30am-11pm.

Slovak home cooking, a few Hungarian dishes and some odd fusion stuff that's probably left
well alone. Mains 160-300Kč. Mon-Sat 11am-11pm.

map . A London Underground logo bearing the restaurant name as if it were a station wel-
comes you to Prague's best British fish 'n' chip shop. After all that sugary central European
starch, just the smell of this place (it manages to pump out just the right fried-batter-and-vin-
egar aroma) will have homesick Brits reaching for the pickled eggs. Only the salad option
spoils the feel of authenticity. Cod and chips from 90Kč. Daily 10.30am-9.30pm.
Žofín Garden Slovanský ostrov 226 774 774 774, zofingarden.cz ; metro Karlovo
náměstí; map . On the island nearest the National Theatre, this tranquil place serves beautiful,
upmarket Czech food such as venison, pike perch and rabbit (all around 300Kč). Mon-Sat
noon-10pm, Sun 11am-3pm.
