GELLÉRT-HEGY AND THE TABÁN
Libella XI, Budafóki út 7 1 209 4761, facebook.com/libellakavezo ; map . Friendly,
agreeably down-at-heel spot near the Gellért Hotel , which is popular above all with the stu-
dent crowd from the nearby Technical University. Bar snacks, chess and draughts seem to
keep those that pop by satisfied. Mon-Fri 8am-1am, Sat 4pm-1am.
Platán I, Döbrentei tér 0620 361 2287; map . This amicable bar's location under the plane
tree near the river, and with outdoor tables, guarantees a steady stream of visitors. Daily
10am-10pm.
Szatyor XI, Bartók Béla út 36 1 279 0290, szatyorbar.com ; map . A typical Budapest
mix here of bar and culture, colourfully exotic decoration, settees to lounge on in the gallery,
good Hungarian fare on a full menu, and a strong student presence from the nearby Technical
University. Mon-Fri noon-1am, Sat-Sun 2pm-1am.

ÓBUDA AND MARGIT-SZIGET
FelliniRómaiKultúrbisztró III, Kossuth Lajos üdülőpart 5-6, Római-part 1 279 0290,
tinyurl.com/cfsndv5 ; map . The best of the string of open-air bars lining the riverbank north
of Óbuda. You can sit on the shore on deckchairs enjoying the regular live music, films and
other cultural programmes. Take the HÉV train from Batthyány tér to Rómaifürdő and it's a
10min walk down to the river. May-Sept, Mon-Fri 3-11pm, Sat-Sun 10am-midnight.
Holdudvar XIII, Margit-sziget 1 236 0155, facebook.com/holdudvaroldal ; map . While
the northern end of the island has the grand hotels, the southern end has the summer bars.
Located about ten minutes' walk from the Margít Bridge end of the island, Holdudvar is
smarter of the two bars in the old Casino building. Here, you can relax under the trees and
enjoy music, dancing and films. The main bar is huge and service should be fairly quick even
on busy nights. May to Sept, Mon-Wed & Sun 11am-midnight, Thurs-Sat 11am-4am.
Wndrlnd XIII, Margit-sziget 0670 775 5667, wndrlnd.hu ; map . On the other side of
the Casino building from Holdudvar , “Wonderland” has a far more laid-back feel, and no
one dresses up to come here. It has been described as pop-up bar meets ruin pub meets artist
workshop, or as “Narnia without the wardrobe” - it is certainly a bizarre mix. On weekend
afternoons it has a great family atmosphere, as people bring the kids along. May to Sept,
Mon-Thurs 4pm-2am, Fri 4pm-4am, Sat 1pm-4am, Sun 1pm-2am.
