LIPÓTVÁROS
Drop Shop V, Balassi Bálint utca 27 0630 345 3739, dropshop.hu ; map . An excellent
wine bar at the Pest end of the Margít Bridge where the stock is dominated by imported
wines, but interestingly its Hungarian wines draw mainly on the smaller producers such as
Gizella pince. You can lounge around on the sofas tasting the delicious snacks - or you can
buy to take out, as the slightly strange name suggests. Not as cheap as the relaxed interior
might suggest. Daily 11am-midnight.
Tokaji Borozó V, Falk Miksa utca 32 1 269 3143, facebook.com ; map . Old-style cellar
wine bar serving wines from the Tokaj region in northeast Hungary - though this is not top-
end stuff - as well as snacks such as lepcsánka (potato pancakes) and zsíros kenyér (bread
and dripping). Mon-Fri noon-9pm.

TERÉZVÁROS AND ERZSÉBETVÁROS
AmigoBar VII, Hársfa utca 1 1 352 1424, amigobar.hu ; map . A fun time is guaranteed
at this rockabilly haunt, with three floors crawling with 1950s nostalgia, right down to the
bartenders with their pompadour quiffs. Live music (Sept-May) takes place down in the cel-
larbar,whichotherwisehasafabulousjukeboxandthreeimmaculatered-clothedpooltables.
Mon-Fri 3pm-3am, Sat 6pm-4am.
Cafe Bobek VII, Kazinczy utca 53 1 322 0279, bobek.hu ; map . Named after a Com-
munist rabbit, this is one of the district's more discreet kerts , the sort of place where you
could happily linger for hours. The venue is divided between a cosy covered terrace, with
cushioned benches, leather sofas, and pink-and-white lanterns, and an adjoining garden spill-
ing over with trees and plants. There also a very creditable food menu to hand if you decide
to stay just that little bit longer. Mon-Thurs 1pm-midnight, Fri & Sat 3pm-2am.
Castro Bistro VII, Madách Imre tér 3 1 215 0184, facebook.com/castrobistro ; map .
Located on a rather dull square, this casual, cheery bar with a misleadingly Cuban name
nevertheless draws a mixed crowd of Hungarians and foreigners. It's nothing particularly
fancy, but the boho-style decor, good beer, and Serbian-style meats, keep people coming
back. Mon-Thurs 11am-midnight, Fri & Sat 11am-1am, Sun 2pm-midnight.
