mus Bar outlets in seven places in central Budapest, two of which are completely vegetarian.

RESTAURANTS
Borkonyha V, Sas utca 3 1 266 0835, borkonyha.hu ; map . The third Budapest res-
taurant to earn a Michelin star, and the most appealing of the three. You're greeted by the
sight of a beautiful, gleaming bar stacked high with bottles of excellent Hungarian wine:
more than two hundred are on offer, with just shy of fifty varieties sold by the glass. The food
is no less exciting - expect suckling pig carpaccio, rabbit with rosemary and savoy cabbage,
and lemon cake with gorgonzola ice cream. Mains 4000-7000Ft. Mon-Sat noon-midnight.
Café Kör V, Sas utca 17 1 311 0053, cafekor.com ; map . Local favourite round the
corner from the Bazilika, with tightly packed tables but a very relaxed feel. Its grilled meats
(predominantly chicken but also turkey and duck) are excellent, as are the salads and spe-
cials of the day - the roasted pike-perch in garlic is always a favourite - and the wine list is
reliably strong. Moreover, this place has retained its traditionally high standards of service.
Mains 2000-4300Ft. Booking advised. Cash payment only. Mon-Sat 10am-10pm.
Csarnok V, Hold utca 11 1 269 4906 csarnokvendeglo.hu ; map . Down-to-earth Hun-
garian restaurant that used to serve the workers at the market a few doors along; despite a
slightly more upmarket clientele these days, its unpretentious feel is still very much in evid-
ence, with faded wood-panelled walls and red-and-white-check tablecloths. The food, too,
is honest-to-goodness fare, such as veal paprika stew and pickled shank of smoked pork
(1600Ft). Daily 10am-10pm.
Firkász XIII, Tátra utca 18 1 450 1118, firkasz.hu ; map . Done up like a journalists'
haunt from the turn of the last century -witness the walls covered in newspaper cuttings
and the rows of empty wine and pálinka bottles- Firkász serves decent traditional Hungarian
dishes along the lines of crispy roast pork and goose leg with cabbage. The resident pianist
tinkles his way into action nightly at 7pm. Mains 2500-5000Ft. All-you-can-eat-and-drink
menu for 12,700Ft. Daily noon-midnight.
Govinda V, Vigyázó Ferenc utca 4 1 267 7631 govinda.hu ; map . This Hare Krishna ve-
getarian restaurant has been serving up its dhals and pakoras for twenty years. The inexpens-
