Latitude 18 This is the hot spot of the east coast, located where the ferryboats
depart for St. John. The casual restaurant and bar, featuring a ceiling adorned with
boat sails, offers live entertainment regularly, especially on Thursday through Sunday
nights. It's open daily from 11:30am to 10:30pm. Red Hook Marina. &   340/777-4552.
Turtle Rock Bar This popular bar presents live music and karaoke to a young
crowd. There's space to dance, but most patrons just sway and listen. The steel-pan
bands that play from 2pm to closing on Sundays are excellent. Burgers, salads, steaks,
and grilled fish are available at the Iguana Grill, a few steps away. Open daily noon to
6pm. In the Iguana Grill at the Wyndham Sugar Bay Resort & Spa, 6500 Estate Smith Bay (a few min-

Gay & Lesbian Nightlife
St. Thomas might be the most cosmopolitan of the Virgin Islands, but it is no longer
the “gay paradise” it was in the 1960s and 1970s. The major gay scene in the U.S.
Virgins is now on St. Croix (see chapter 5). That doesn't mean that gay men and
lesbians aren't drawn to St. Thomas. They are, but many attend predominantly
straight establishments, such as the Greenhouse (see “Bars & Clubs,” above).
