Getting There & Away
AIR Murcia's San Javier airport is situated beside the Mar Menor, closer to Cart-
agena than Murcia city. Connections to the UK include the following:
easyjet ( www.easyjet.com ) London (Gatwick), Birmingham, Bristol and Newcastle.
Jet2.com ( www.jet2.com ) Blackpool, Edinburgh, Leeds, Manchester and Newcastle.
Ryanair ( www.ryanair.com ) London (Luton and Stansted), Dublin, Leeds, Glasgow, East Mid-
lands and Liverpool.
BUS At least 10 buses run daily to both Cartagena (€3.95, one hour) and Lorca
(€5.35, 1½ hours).
TRAIN Up to five trains travel daily to/from Madrid (€44.60, 4¼ hours).
Getting Around
BUS From the bus station, take bus 3 into town; from the train station, hop aboard
bus 9 or 39.
CAR & MOTORCYCLE There's a handy car park at Jardín San Esteban, north of
the centre.
TAXI A taxi between the airport and Murcia city costs around €40.

This is a city where you should walk with your eyes raised to the skyline: the
Modernista buildings, with their domes, swirly decorations and pastel colours, add a
sumptuous quality to the architecture. The city is equally laden with archaeological
sites, as well as excellent restaurants and bars.
