After you've inserted the motherboard into the Mega, place the two boards against the left side of
the 3D printer, as shown in Figure 16-3. Place the device so that none of the motherboard's edges are
touching any metal pieces (such as nuts) or the surface the 3D printer is resting on. An ideal location is
where the motherboard is 1/2” or so above the surface. Mark a small line or some points so you'll know
where to attach the Arduino Mega after removing the motherboard.
Note One of the technical editors, Tony Buser, had this to say about inserting the motherboard into the Mega:
“Be careful; it's very easy to bend the pins. It's a good idea to slowly push it in a bit at a time and not at an angle.
If they do bend out of alignment, very carefully push them back straight.”
