CAN MAJÓ
( MAP GOOGLE MAP ; 93 221 54 55; www.canmajo.es ; Carrer del Almirall Aixada 23; mains €16-26;
1-4pm Tue-Sun & 8-11.30pm Tue-Sat; 45, 57, 59, 64 or 157, Barceloneta)
Virtually on the beach (with tables outside in summer), Can Majó has a long and steady
reputation for fine seafood, particularly its rice dishes and bountiful suquets (fish stews).
The bouillabaisse of fish and seafood is succulent. Sit outside (there are heat lamps in
winter) and admire the beach goers.
SEAFOOD
RESTAURANT 7 PORTES
( MAP GOOGLE MAP ;
93 319 30 33; www.7portes.com ; Passeig d'Isabel II 14; mains €16-32;
1pm-1am; Barceloneta)
Founded in 1836 as a cafe and converted into a restaurant in 1929, 7 Portes is a classic. It
exudes an old-world atmosphere with its wood panelling, tiles, mirrors and plaques naming
some of the famous - such as Orson Welles - who have passed through. Paella is the speci-
ality, or go for the surfeit of seafood in the gran plat de marisc (literally 'big plate of sea-
food').
MEDITERRANEAN
TORRE D'ALTA MAR
( MAP GOOGLE MAP ; 93 221 00 07; www.torredealtamar.com ; Torre de Sant Sebastià, Passeig de
Joan Borbó 88; mains around €35;
1-3.30pm Tue-Sat & 8-11.30pm daily;
17, 39, 57 or 64,
Bar-
celoneta)
Head 75m skyward to the top of the Torre de Sant Sebastià and take a ringside seat for mag-
nificent waterfront views while dining on seafood. Menu hits include prawn risotto, grilled
sea bass and sirloin with zucchini flower tempura. Prices are steep and would seem poor
value apart from the fine vistas.
SEAFOOD
CAN ROS
( MAP GOOGLE MAP ;
93 221 45 79; Carrer del Almirall Aixada 7; mains €16-28;
1-4.30pm &
7-11pm Tue-Sun; 45, 57, 59, 64 or 157, Barceloneta)
The fifth generation is now at the controls of this immutable seafood favourite, which first
opened in 1911. In a restaurant where the decor is a reminder of simpler times, there's a
straightforward guiding principle: serve juicy fresh fish cooked with a light touch.
Can Ros also does a rich arròs a la marinera (seafood rice), fideuá (similar to paella, but
using vermicelli noodles as the base) with squid and mussels, and a grilled fish and seafood
platter.
