In-Depth Information
Originally built in 1891 and restored in the 1990s to its 1920s elegance, the hotel houses
the nicest rooms in the park. As is true everywhere in the park, though, the appeal comes
from the location and the views, not the amenities, which are basic. If you are staying in
the hotel, request a room with a view of the lake. There is an annex that offers more modest
rooms; individual cabins are located behind the hotel. These duplexes were remodeled in
2004 and are simple and modest.
The Lake Lodge Cabins ($188 Western cabin, $115 Frontier cabin, $75 Pioneer cabin)
are clean and simple, and some have recently been renovated. Located just off the lake, the
cabins are clustered around the main lodge, which is an inviting common area for guests to
gather. It has a large porch that beckons guests to take a seat in one of the rocking chairs and
soak in the view, as well as two fireplaces, a gift shop, and a cozy lounge. The Western cab-
ins are a bit more spacious, with two beds and a shower-tub in each bathroom. The Pioneer
cabins are older and more spartan, with shower-only bathrooms and 1-2 double beds. The
setting is tranquil and quiet, and early risers may spot a herd of bison wandering through
the property.
The M Old Faithful Inn ($528 suites, $412 semi-suites, $225-250 premium rooms,
$140 mid-range rooms, $103 with shared bath) is the most popular lodging inside the park,
and for good reason. The original part of the lodge, known as the Old House, was built
in 1904 by acclaimed architect Robert Reamer. Situated close to the Old Faithful geyser,
the lodge epitomizes rustic beauty, originality, and strength. It has a large front lobby that
houses a massive stone fireplace. The larger rooms are in the wings of the inn, built in the
1920s, while the more modest rooms are in the Old House. The inn has a wide assortment
of guest rooms and rates, ranging from two-room suites with sitting rooms and fridges to
simple rooms without individual baths. Guest rooms can be booked more than a year in ad-
vance, so plan ahead and make reservations.
