have been a tremendous loss. But the restaurant was spared and continues to be a wonderful
part of the community. Call for reservations.
Not gourmet by any stretch of the imagination, Mark's In & Out Drive-In (801 W.
Park St., Livingston, 406/222-7744) just might be the town favorite. There is no seating at
this seasonal walk-up or drive-up joint right out of the 1950s, but the burgers, fries, and
shakes are so good that you won't mind.
Located in the venerable Murray Hotel, 2nd Street Bistro (123 N. 2nd St., 406/
222-9463, www.secondstreetbistro.com , 5pm-close daily, $14-20) serves simple but in-
spired cuisine with French flair and Western attitude. The Mediterranean fish stew is a local
favorite, as are the upscale pizzas. All of the meat served is raised locally, as is much of the
produce.
An excellent regional chain is the Rib & Chop House (305 E. Park St., 406/222-9200,
www.ribandchophouse.com , 11am-9:30pm Mon.-Thurs., 11am-10pm Fri.-Sat.,
4pm-9:30pm Sun., $7-30), which serves excellent steak, seafood, and, obviously, ribs. It's a
popular spot (in all of its five Montana and Wyoming locations) so reservations are strongly
recommended.
Every Western town worth its salt should have a Stockman (118 N. Main St., 406/
222-8455, 11am-2pm and 5pm-9pm Mon.-Thurs., 11am-2pm and 5pm-10pm Fri.-Sat.,
$6.50-24.50). It is an old-school bar with the essence of a supper club. The steaks, prime
rib, and burgers are second to none; this is the real Montana.
