While fishing permits or licenses are not necessary in Glacier National Park, it is imperative
that anyone fishing abides by the regulations. A brochure can be picked up at any of the
visitors centers or downloaded from the National Park Service website ( www.nps.gov/glac/
planyourvisit ) .
Because of the altitude in Glacier, the water is colder and some of the lakes in the park
are sterile. St. Mary Lake is not especially productive water, but it sure is nice to stand in
and soak in the scenery. There are some rainbow trout, brook trout, whitefish, and the rare
