In-Depth Information
KiwiRail Scenic ( 0800 872 467; www.kiwirailscenic.co.nz ) runs the Northern Explorer train
between Auckland and Wellington, stopping at seven towns through the middle of the North
Island.
Auckland is the best place in NZ to hire a car long-term, with a swag of outlets conveni-
ently grouped together along Beach Rd and Stanley St close to the city centre. As well as
many major companies are smaller outfits with older cars, such as A2B Rentals ( 0800
310 510; www.a2brentals.co.nz ) and Escape ( 0800 216 171; www.escaperentals.co.nz; 39 Beach
Rd) , which hire out small, affordable campervans.
