Under-
standably popular with wedding planners, the PierGiorgio is built on a rocky cliff over-
looking the ocean, ornately constructed with a white gingerbread facade and a grand red-
carpeted staircase that spirals to the top floor. The room furnishings are aging and don't
match the magnificent sea views - ask for a room on the 3rd floor. The cliffside restaurant
(mains RD$600) is an undeniably romantic spot.

Set on a coral spit on the aptly named Playa Chiquita, this hotel's
rooms are minimally furnished in an attractive way. Unfortunately, however, the pool area
out back could use some attention, even just a tree or two to break up the concrete. All
rooms do have mini refrigerators and an all-inclusive service (all meals) is available for a
US$20 surcharge.

A large complex with three pools, five restaurants, almost 400 rooms arranged in three-
story buildings and direct access to Playa Alicia, though it's no great shake of a beach.
The rooms are classic all-inclusive: clean and comfortable but not memorable in any way,
with cable TV and a balcony, and most looking onto the pool.
Eating
A handful of restaurants are within a block of Parque Central and most hotels have their
own. Pedro Clisante is lined with informal bars and restaurants, as is the path along Playa
Sosúa - head to the flag-strewn Scandinavian Bar, to the left of the central stairs down to
8am-10pm)
on the main highway has a good selection of local produce and imported delic-
acies.
