A boutique hotel for the design-conscious only a few meters away from Plaza
España. Housed in a beautifully renovated building from the 1860s, all six rooms sport
custom-made furniture from native materials to high-concept fixtures and textiles. Each of
the whitewashed, light and airy rooms has a balcony, and breakfast is served in a secret
garden-like patio shaded by lush vegetation.
There's even a small plunge pool-Jacuzzi to relax in. Another option is the rooftop,
which has lounge chairs and fabulous views of the Zona Colonial and river. An attractive
faux-marble floor runs throughout the public spaces.

Housed in a renovated colonial building, Doña Elvira is a friendly place geared to-
ward travelers; you can hang out in the inner courtyard, take a dip in the pool (it's too
small for swimming), lounge on the rooftop solarium or read in the lobby/dining area. For
such a pretty building, it's unfortunate the 13 rooms are a somewhat haphazard amalgam
of mostly plain styles and furnishings.

Cross colonial with a touch of medieval and you have the Palacio, a maze-like
hotel occupying a 17th-century mansion only a block north of El Conde. Service is excep-
tional and you'll need it to find your way past the charming nooks and crannies, which in-
clude reading areas, a gym, a small bar, a lush interior courtyard and stone-walled walk-
ways.
First-floor rooms are German conquistador minimalist while the larger 2nd-floor rooms
are more modern and generic. Though it lacks shade, the small rooftop pool is a big plus,
as is the gym.
