bathroom is extremely small. If no one answers Bettye's door, taxi drivers lounging
around the plaza may be able to help; she often leaves the key.

Worth considering for the self-sufficient and long-term deal seekers (discounts for
weekly and monthly stays) are the large apartment-style units (all have kitchens) in this
multistory pink pastel building, a block off El Conde. There's no front desk per se and the
basic furnishings are run down and the paint peeling.

Take thee
to this nunnery - if you're looking for austere elegance. Each of the 11 large rooms is
sparsely furnished, but the wood-beamed ceilings and stone floors are truly special; the
tile-floored bathrooms are modern and well-maintained.
It's easy to imagine the former function of this 16th-century building, the heavy stone
facade, the dark and vaulted front room - now a beautiful reading room and dining area
with classical music playing softly - giving way to a lush and sunny inner courtyard, all
inspiring peace and tranquility.

French owner has created an idyllic oasis, an exceptionally sophisticated combination of
European elegance with a colonial-era facade and an art-deco design. The rooms lining
the narrow garden and pool area all have high ceilings and four-poster beds, as well as
flatscreen TVs and bathrooms with ceramic-tile floors.
Rocking chairs and a Balinese-style lounge bed provide plenty of character and comfort
for those wishing to socialize. A few studios set in back, past the open-air breakast area,
are more basic but have stovetops and sinks and reduced weekly and monthly rates.
