In-Depth Information
Pulkovo-1
Passengers flying from Moscow or elsewhere in Russia or the former Soviet
Union will arrive at this unmodernised Soviet airport. The easiest way into the
city centre is to take a taxi (there is no dispatch point - you'll just have to ne-
gotiate with the drivers who'll offer you rides). Reckon on paying R700 to
R900 depending on where you want to go.
An alternative is to take bus 39 (R21, every 15 minutes, from 5.30am to
12.30am) from outside the terminal building. It connects you to the
Moskovskaya metro station from where you can get to anywhere in the city.
Buy your ticket on the bus. Alternatively jump into any marshrutka (minibus),
and check with the driver that it goes to the Moskovskaya metro station
(nearly all do).
Pulkovo-2
From the international terminal, taking a taxi to the city centre has never been
easier. There is a taxi booking stand in the arrivals area of the airport where
staff speak English. Tell them where you're going and you'll be given a slip of
paper with the price on it and be taken to a taxi outside. Expect to pay R600
to R800 for a trip to the centre, depending on where exactly you're headed.
Drivers usually won't speak much English, but just hand over the money on
arrival - you don't need to tip.
For those on a budget, bus K-13 shuttles you to the nearest metro station,
Moskovskaya (R27, every 10 minutes, from 5.30am to 12.30am). Turn left
when you leave the arrivals area and the bus stop is between departures and
arrivals. The bus terminates at the Moskovskaya metro station, so you don't
need to worry about where to get off.
BUYING TICKETS IN ST PETERSBURG
You'll most likely have your onward travel tickets when you arrive in St Peters-
burg, but if not it's easy to purchase tickets for boat, bus, train and plane travel.
