Air
Most travellers arrive in St Petersburg at Pulkovo International Airport
( www.pulkovoairport.ru ) , 17km south of the city. Pulkovo-1 handles do-
mestic flights, as well as flights to the former Soviet Union. The international
terminal is Pulkovo-2, which has daily connections to most major cities in
Europe. Both terminals are woefully ill-equipped for the needs of the modern
traveller, although Pulkovo-2 did get a spruce-up for the 2003 tercentenary
celebrations.
Airlines
All airlines fly from Pulkovo-1 Airport in St Petersburg to three different Mo-
scow airports. Book in advance and you can get tickets as cheap as R2200
one-way, although normally prices are between R3000 and R3600.
Aeroflot ( www.aeroflot.ru ) Flies into Sheremetyevo Airport in Moscow up to
10 times a day.
Rossiya Airlines ( www.rossiya-airlines.com ) Based in St Petersburg, this
airline flies to Domodedovo Airport in Moscow and operates about eight flights
per day between the two cities.
Sky Express ( www.skyexpress.ru ) Russia's first no-frills budget airline flies
into Moscow's Vnukovo Airport, operating two or three daily flights to St
Petersburg. Sky Express is the cheapest way to go if you book far enough in
advance. In-flight food, beverages, entertainment and other services incur ad-
ditional costs.
