Non-photorealistic
Visualizations with Lumion
For the majority of architectural visualizations, we are advised to create realistic
and believable images or movies. However, in particular situations, the client
or company may not want to be too detailed with materials and other elements
essential to create an accurate 3D visualization. From time to time, the client may
instead want something relatively simple or more artistic, and we may feel anxious
to meet these types of requirements. The previous chapter was dedicated to creating
believable architectural visualizations and for that, we covered a wide variety of
camera effects and other elements to build layers and layers of detail contributing to
a realistic render. Still, it is normal to enquire if Lumion can help us with a different
approach to architectural visualizations.
The answer is yes! In this chapter, we will take a step back from the realistic region
and move to a more technical, conceptual, and even artistic side.
In this chapter, we will cover the following topics:
• Non-photorealistic Render
• Using NPR visualizations
• Creating NPR using Lumion
• Artistic effects—what is available
• Controlling Lumion's effects
• Exploring artistic effects
• Creating conceptual visualizations
• The Painting and Watercolor effects
• The Sketch effect
