In-Depth Information
The benefit of using this method is the level of control we have over the materials
and this, combined with all we saw in the previous topic, will certainly help to
produce the best result possible. A detailed 3D model is something important, but
a good material and texture is equally crucial to create beautiful renders in Lumion.
One benefit of using the Standard material with an imported material is that the
Standard material recognizes and keeps the texture applied to the surface if there
is one, as shown in the following screenshot:
The use of the Standard material is simple and the settings were already covered
when we explained how to use Lumion's materials. However, there is an extra menu
that is important to know if we want to fully master Lumion.
The mysterious Advanced Options menu
The Advanced Options menu can be found next to the Textures menu. This menu
is not essential to create most of the materials, but when we start to work with more
reflective surfaces, the Advanced Options menu gives us the control we need to
adjust how the light reacts with the surface. The control we have is not seen when
the camera is perpendicular to the surface, but instead when the camera is looking at
the surface from different angles.
