Browsing the Web
Google Chrome web browser comes pre-installed on Android devices. Since both Android
and Chrome are Google products, it will come as no surprise that they work well together.
However, many other browsers are available and have their own advantages, as you'll see
below.
Google Chrome
If you have a Google account, all of your Chrome settings and bookmarks will be automat-
ically synchronized with Chrome on your Android device. If you use other Google applic-
ations, such as Gmail and Calendar, their data is automatically synchronized as well. Be-
cause of the painless integration, Chrome will almost certainly be your primary browser on
all Android devices you own, such as phones.
Chrome is available for all major platforms, including Android, iOS, Windows, Mac, and
Linux. Changes you make to any Google app, such as Calendar, Contacts, etc., are automat-
ically synchronized on your Android devices and desktop computers running Chrome. You
can turn this integration off but it is one of the strong points of Android.
Tabbed Browsing
Chrome is a tabbed browser, which means you can have several web pages open at the same
time in different tabs. The browser goes full screen and the tabs disappear while you're act-
ively browsing a web page. To see the open tabs, swipe downward on the screen. To close a
tab, tap the X at the right side of the tab. To open a new tab, tap the “New Tab” icon just to
the right of the right-most tab.
New tabs open to your bookmarks. You can either select a bookmark, or type a web address
directly into the address bar just below the tabs.
