5.5 THE USE OF ALUMINUM POWDER IN OIL PRODUCTION
Aluminum powder isusedin the metallurgicalindustryinaluminothermy, as alloy-
ingadditivesfor the manufacture ofsemi-finished productsbypressing and sinter-
ing. Verystrongcomponents (gears, bushings, etc.) are received with this method.
Powdersare alsousedinchemistry for thepreparation of compounds ofaluminumas
a catalyst (e.g., production of ethyleneandacetone).
Considering high reactivity ofaluminum, especiallyin powder form, it is used
in explosivesand solid fuelfor rockets, using itsproperty to quicklyignite.
In theoil industrynanoparticlesof aluminumwere usedfor the separation ofoil-
water emulsion.
Figure 5.3 shows a snapshot of the device, where osmotic pressure was mea-
sured. The pressure difference D was measured with a liquid manometer- U -
shaped tube. Manometer was connected to a closed receptacle, which was par-
tially vacuumed to avoid the effects of atmospheric pressure
D
.

The use of aluminum powder in injection wells for water injection leads to a
significant increase in reservoir pressure, creating the effect of hydrobreak and
facilitates the efficient displacement of oil.
