Tours Friendly English-speaking motorcycle taxi driver Kyaw Soe ( kyaw-
[e-mail] ) can organize tours of Shwebo, Hanlin (K13000) and Kyaukmyaung
(K10,000). He has no telephone number, but can often be found waiting on the street just
south of Win Guesthouse .
ACCOMMODATION
Pyi Shwe Theingha Hotel Shwe Taza Paya Rd 075 22949, pyishwetheing-
[e-mail] . One of Myanmar's fancier bus station hotels with the only elevator in Sh-
webo, this brand-new block has a range of clean, spacious roo ms all w ith private bathrooms,
hot water and a/c. Single rooms start at a reasonable K15,000. K20,000
WinGuesthouse AungZeya St 07522049. This modern guesthouse soaks upmost ofSh-
webo's foreign visitors thanks to both its location between Shwe Taza Paya and the market,
and its decent rooms. The cheapest are plain but bright and clean with shared bathrooms, and
there are a few nicer rooms upstairs with a/c and en s uite . Single travellers pay half the regu-
lar rate, but you'll need to head outside for breakfast. $20
EATING AND DRINKING
Café Santino Aung Zeya St 09 4004 25714. With two cavernous teashops on Aung
Zeya St, Café Santino is popular with locals all day long - from their breakfast-time fried
rice and moun-di to late-night football matches, with plenty of coffee and tea served up in
between. Daily 6am-10pm.
EdenCulinaryGarden AungZeyaSt 07521651. Withadiningroomandsometablesset
around a little courtyard, Eden serves Burmese and Chinese standards, with the promise of a
few Western dishes to boot. Check the prices before you order - while it's not an expensive
place overall (a meal for two costing from K4000), there are a few surprises, like a K7000
omelette. Daily 6am-9pm.
Melody Music Garden Yan Gyi Aung St 075 22011. One of the few places in town to
take advantage ofthe city moat, with averanda that'sagreat spotforsitting andenjoying the
viewwithanicyglassofbeer-justdon'tforgetyourmosquitorepellent. Daily10am-10pm.
Myanuwar Tabinshweti Rd 09 616 1123. Not far from the market, this little local diner
serves up cheap curry and rice (K1000, or K1500 with side dish), as well as K200 fried rice
for breakfast. Daily 9am-8pm.
