Kaanapali Beach Hotel It's older and less high-tech than its upscale
neighbors, but the Kaanapali has an irresistible local style and a real Hawaiian
warmth that's missing from many other Maui hotels. The spacious, spotless
motel-like rooms (connecting rooms are available with either a king and single
daybed or two double beds per room) each have a lanai that looks toward the
courtyard and the beach. The beachfront rooms are separated from the water
only by Kaanapali's landscaped walking trail.
Old Hawaii values and customs are always close at hand, and the service is
some of the friendliest around. Children 5 and under eat free when dining with
parents. As part of the hotel's extensive Hawaiiana program, you can learn to cut
pineapple, weave lauhala, or even dance the real hula. There's also an arts-and-
crafts fair 3 days a week, a morning welcome reception on weekdays, and a
Hawaiian library. Just opened is Kupanaha, a gourmet dinner show with world
renowned illusionists Jody and Kathleen Baran, combined with traditional hula
and chants of the award-winning Kano'eau Dance Academy; it's a great night-
time activity for the entire family.
When you make your reservations, don't forget to give them your kids' names
and ages, because at check-in all children 12 and younger get the free “Aloha
Passport for Kids.” It allows them to visit various “destinations” on the resort
property; they will receive a free gift at each one.
