Sheraton Maui The new emphasis here is on family appeal, with a class
of rooms dedicated to those traveling with kids: Called Ohana family suites,
they are huge (665 sq. ft.), with two double beds and a pull-down double Mur-
phy bed. The bathrooms have separate shower and tub and two sinks. There's a
sliding door to separate the living area from the bedroom, and each side has its
own TV (with movies and a PlayStation), which may eliminate some fights. Plus
(someone at Sheraton must have kids) they have placed the Ohana suites close
to the keiki wading pool and on the same floor as the restaurants and lobby. The
rack rate for the Ohana suite is $790 for up to two adults and three children in
a suite. All that and an ocean view to boot!
This grande dame of Kaanapali Beach is built into the side of a cliff on the
curving, white-sand cove next to Black Rock (a lava formation that rises 80 ft.
above the beach), where there's excellent snorkeling just outside your room. The
kids will be entertained by the nightly cliff divers swan-diving off the torch-lit
lava-rock headland in a traditional sunset ceremony—a sight to see. And the
views of Kaanapali Beach, with Lanai and Molokai in the distance, are some of
the best around. Plus there are daily activities for kids at the Keiki Kamp. For
the preteen and teen set there are water basketball games and lawn croquet.

Westin Maui What sets this resort apart from its peers along lovely Kaana-
pali Beach? The kid-pleasing “aquatic playground,” an 87,000-square-foot pool
area with five free-form heated pools joined by swim-through grottoes, water-
falls, and a 128-foot-long water slide. They even have a baby water slide for chil-
dren 5 and under. The fantasy theme extends from the estatelike grounds into
the interior's public spaces, which are filled with the shrieks of tropical birds and
the splash of waterfalls. Most of the rooms in the two 11-story towers overlook the
aquatic playground, the ocean, and the island of Lanai in the distance.
Most rooms here will accommodate a family of four. The Ocean Tower rooms
have two double beds, but if you need more space, get a second room, as you'd
be hard pressed to squeeze in a rollaway bed. The latest amenities in the rooms
