Dear Mrs Nixon
This activity is designed to provide evidence for P2.
Work Placement
I am writing to ask if you would consider me for a
one-week work placement with your company in
the second week of January 2011? I am currently
studying for a BTEC National Certifi cate in Travel
and Tourism at Runnymore College and worked
in the local tourist information centre for 2 months
last summer. I enclose an updated CV for your
information, which you can see includes details of
my educational qualifi cations, skills developed and
leisure interests. References are available on request.
Interview checklist
Not all organisations call placement students for an
interview, but it's best to be prepared! The employer
may carry out a telephone interview to save time.
An interview is the most commonly-used selection
technique in travel and tourism recruitment. It gives
an employer the opportunity to assess whether a
candidate will fi t in well with the organisation and meet
the demands of the placement on offer. For you as the
candidate going for an interview, it is your chance to
sell yourself to the employer while at the same time
assessing whether you would be happy while on
placement in the organisation.
I am very interested in a career in retail travel when
I fi nish my course and consider that I could make a
useful contribution to your company. I am available
for interview at any time that is convenient to you
and look forward to hearing back.
Yours sincerely
You need to prepare well before you attend the
