Using a variety of reference sources, draw up an
itinerary for a London-based couple who would
like to spend a romantic 2-week holiday in 5-star
accommodation in the Caribbean. They would like
a two-centre holiday, with 7 nights spent on each of
two separate islands on an all-inclusive basis. They
would like to hire a small car for the duration of their
stay on both islands and want scuba diving lessons for
2 days on one of the islands. One of the hotels must
have a golf course and offer spa treatments. They
are fl exible on time, but would like to start their trip
in the fi rst week of November. The itinerary should
include all travel and accommodation information,
with full fl ight and transfer details. Justify your
selections for this visitor profi le.
meal arrangements;
Additional services, e.g. car hire, event tickets, pre-
bookable seats, guided tours;
Passport, visa and health requirements;
Additional information and procedure for alterations
to booking.
The format of an itinerary must be clear, logical, accurate
and presented to a professional standard. Figure 8.3
gives an example of an itinerary for a 20-night tour to
Australia (you may fi nd this useful when completing the
assignment for this unit).
Reference sources
This activity is designed to provide evidence for
P5 and M3.
The reference sources used to locate major long-haul
destinations of the world described at the beginning of
this unit are equally useful when it comes to planning a
long-haul tour (see page 268). The atlases, brochures,
travel guides, hotel guides, gazetteers, websites and
DVDs/CD-ROMs described earlier can all play a part in
designing a long-haul itinerary. Reference sources used
must be authentic, reliable and 'fi t for purpose', i.e.
be able to provide accurate information on transport
services, destination features and additional products
on offer to visitors.
