Kitsch
BAR
Chandelier-lit Kitsch sits next to a 14th-century pilgrim hospice and lures 20- to early
30-something hipsters out for a good time with its lovely shabby-chic exterior, animal-
print seats, pavement terrace and lavish spread at
aperitivo
time - €8.50 for a drink and
sufficient nibbles to not need dinner. DJ sets set the place rocking after dark.

Rex Caffé
A veteran favourite, Rex continues to remain ahead of the nightlife curve. DJs spin elec-
tronica that generally remains soft enough for the trendy, young crowd to engage in con-
versation. The decor is classy kitsch, mixing cracked pottery mosaics (think Gaudí), low
but warm lighting from wrought-iron fixtures and a back room done up in blood red.

Local Life
At the Market
No single address proffers such a warts 'n' all glimpse into local life as Florence's central market. Feisty, frenetic
and generally jam-packed, the 19th-century iron-and-glass hangar of the
Mercato Centrale
(Central Market;
Piazza del Mercato Centrale; 7am-2pm Mon-Fri, to 5pm Sat) is the place to buy everything from tripe and
pulmone
(cow's lung) to award-winning Tuscan olive oils, parmesan wheels, seasonal fruit, veg and wild herbs.
