Built in the 1650s, this small but wonderful baroque theatre with a stunning entrance is the
ideal venue for chamber music. It also stages classic plays, from Shakespeare to Piran-

Understand
The Saint & the Sinner
Few artists are saints - they're far more likely to be sinners. One of the great exceptions was Fra' Angelico (c
1395-1455), the Renaissance painter who was known for centuries as 'Il Beato Angelico' (literally 'The Blessed
Angelic One') or simply 'Il Beato' (The Blessed). Also a Dominican friar, Il Beato was canonised by Pope John
Paul II in 1982. The best place to admire Fra' Angelico's work is the Museo di San Marco.
