Tiny and highly atmospheric old pub, hidden away down an alley between Garrick Street
and Floral Street. The Poet Laureate, John Dryden, was beaten up here in 1679 by a
group of thugs, hired most probably by his rival poet, the Earl of Rochester.

Superbly preserved Victorian pub with cut, etched and
engraved windows, bronze lampstands, red-leather seat-
ing and a fine lincrusta ceiling, plus a wide range of
ales.
