Inside this massive 14th- to 15th-century cathedral are original Murano stained-
glass windows and 25 doges' tombs by such notable sculptors as Nicola Pisano and
Tullio Lombardo. Paolo Veronese's Cappella del Rosario ceiling depicts the
Madonna ascending a staggering staircase, while the second chapel on the right
features a Bellini altarpiece. Giambattista Lorenzetti's southwest chapel dome

Multicultural Castello was frequented for centuries by Turkish merchants, Ar-
menian clerics, and Balkan and Slavic labourers. This 15th-century religious con-
fraternity headquarters is dedicated to favourite Slavic saints George, Tryphone
and Jerome of Dalmatia, whose lives are vividly depicted in minute detail by early
Renaissance master colourist Vittore Carpaccio. (
