Western Prince Cruises WHALE-WATCHING
( www.orcawhalewatch.com ; 1 Spaing St, Friday Harbor) Western Prince Cruises is the San
Juan Islands' oldest whale-watching tour company and its year-round ecofriendly excur-
sions keep an eye out for eagles, seals and porpoises as well as the formidable orcas.
Tours on the Western Prince, which accommodates up to 30 people, depart daily from
June to August (adult/child $85/56), less often and less expensively in spring and fall.
You can make reservations via its website or visit the office right next to the ferry dock
in Friday Harbor.
ORCAS FROM THE SHORE
The best way to view orcas with the least environmental impact is from the shore.
This sounds unlikely, but the Salish Sea surrounding the San Juans boasts some of
the best whale- and orca-viewing shore locations in the world. Peak season is May
through July. We suggest packing a picnic and binoculars to the following loca-
tions:
» San Juan County Park San Juan Island.
» Lime Kiln Point State Park ( Click here ) San Juan Island.
» American Camp ( Click here ) San Juan Island.
» Cattle Point South San Juan Island.
» Lopez Island West side.
