( 713-529-8466; 3000 Caroline St; 4pm-midnight Sun-Wed, to 2am Thu-Sat) The only bar in Houston
to keep a completely temperature-controlled wine cellar has an earthy Italian enoteca
(wine bar) feel. Knowledgeable bartenders offer friendly guidance to oenophiles and the
clueless alike.
ON THE GO: HOUSTON FOOD TRUCKS
Unlike in some other cities food trucks in Houston really move. You might see the same one in two or three
places the same day. Check online for their latest locations, but they're often near bars and cafes in Montrose. The
Menil Collection ( Click here ) and Museum of Fine Arts ( Click here ) parking lots are also frequent stopovers.
Note: you'll rarely see them downtown because of parking regulations.
Good Dog ( www.gooddogfoodtruck.com ) Our guilty pleasure, selling things like gourmet guac dogs and tofufur-
ters with homemade toppings and sides.
Waffle Bus ( www.thewafflebus.com ) Waffles and waffle sammiches, one topped with site-fried chicken and
ancho-chili mayo. Need we say more?

Inversion Coffee House

( 713-523-4866; 1953 Montrose Blvd; 6:30am-10pm Mon-Fri, 7:30am-10pm Sat & Sun; ) A great in-
die coffee house. Even if you're not in the neighborhood, the casual local vibe, decent
baked goods and a rotation of food trucks outside make it worth a detour.
CAFE
West Alabama Ice House

( 713-528-6874; 1919 W Alabama St; 10am-midnight Mon-Fri, until 1am Sat, noon-midnight Sun) Texas'
oldest 'ice house' (where people really used to come to get their ice; now open-air drink-
eries) draws the crowds, from bikers to lawyers. We think it's because of the cheap beer
and huge dog-friendly yard with picnic tables. Wear sunscreen, and buy someone a beer.
