Activities
The area around Schladming has more than 900km of mountain-bike trails, divided
among 20 routes shown on the excellent, free mountain-bike map from the tourist office.
Hiking trails begin almost from the centre of town - the tourist office's town map has
trails marked.
Schladming Ski Fields
(day pass adult/child €45/23, alpine ski set per day €30) The winter ski period from December to
March is the peak season in Schladming, when the area's 223km of downhill ski pistes
and more than 100 ski lifts rev into action. Skiing and snowboarding on the Dachstein
Glacier can be done year-round (but not all lifts are open in summer).
Most of the cross-country skiing is done across the valley in Ramsau (about €16 for ski
hire). A medium-quality snowboard for the pistes costs €20 and snow-hiking shoes €15.
Prices on the glacier are similar.
SKIING, SNOWBOARDING
Riesachfälle Waterfalls
You can begin this popular walk from Talbachgasse in Schladming. Follow the stream for
about 40 minutes along a shared mountain -bike and walking trail to Untertal. From there
it's about another 3½ hours to the waterfalls. An alternative is to take the bus to the popu-
lar valley restaurant Gasthof zu Riesachfall ( 61678; www.gasthaus-riesachfall.at ; Untertalstrasse 66, Un-
tertal; lunch & dinner late Apr-late Oct) and walk the forest trail (1½ hours; good shoes and
head for heights required) or the gravel forestry road (two hours) to the falls and beyond
to the Riesachsee (Lake Riesach).

place is located at the Planai Stadium.
BICYCLE RENTAL
Trittscher
( 226 47-11; www.tritscher.at ; Salzburgerstrasse 24) In summer Trittscher rents mountain bikes for
€15 per day and e-bikes for €29 per day; in winter it hires out ski equipment for €15 to
€29 depending on the type, ski shoes for €8.40 per day and snowboards for €19.
