CAR & MOTORCYCLE
One-way systems, congested roads and pricey parking make public transport preferable
to driving in central Linz, although a car is a definite plus if you're keen to explore more
of Upper Austria. There are some free car parks along Obere Donaulände. Major car-hire
firms include Avis ( www.avis.com ) at the airport and Hertz ( www.hertz.com ; Bürgerstrasse 19) .
PUBLIC TRANSPORT
Linz AG ( www.linzag.at ) Linz has an extensive bus and tram network, but by early evening
services become infrequent. Single tickets (€2), day passes (€4) and weekly passes
(€12.20) are available from pavement dispensers and Tabak (tobacconist) shops. Drivers
don't sell tickets - buy and validate your tickets before you board.
