Museumsquartier) Picture a minimalist grey-white room and lots of bright, young hip things
bent over piping-hot Thai, Japanese, Chinese and Vietnamese noodle soups and rice
dishes and you have Ra'mien. Ra'mien fills up quickly at night, so it's worth booking
ahead; the lounge bar downstairs has regular DJs and stays open until at least 2am.

Radetzkyplatz) Gasthaus Wild, formerly a dive of a Beisl , has in recent years morphed into a
great neo-Beisl . Its dark, wood-panelled interior retains a traditional look, and the menu
includes flavoursome favourites like goulash, schnitzel with potato salad, and paprika
chicken with Spätzle (egg noodles). The menu changes regularly, the vibe is relaxed, the
staff welcoming and the wine selection good.

Fri, from noon Sat & Sun; Rathaus, 2 Lederergasse) You'll feel part of the famiglia at this
friendly neighbourhood Italian, where tightly packed tables are lit by candlelight. The
food is superb: bread crisp from a wood oven is followed by generous, well-seasoned
portions of grilled fish and meat, washed down with beefy Chianti reds. Seasonal special-
ities like truffles often star on the menu.

( 587 06 72; www.motto.at ; 05, Schönbrunner Strasse 30; mains €9-29; 6pm-2am Mon-Thu & Sun, to 4am Fri
& Sat; Pilgramgasse) The darling of Margareten's dining scene is this theatrical lounge-
style restaurant, which is all clever backlighting, high banquettes and DJ beats. Asian,
Austrian and Mediterranean flavours are all in the mix, with well-executed dishes from
red Thai curry to the signature fillet steak with chocolate-chilli sauce. Motto is very pop-
ular, particularly with the gay crowd; reservations are recommended. Entrance is through
the forbidding chrome door on Rüdigergasse.
