TICKETS
» Amtrak tickets may be purchased aboard the train without penalty if the station is not open 30 minutes prior to board-
ing. Rail travel is generally cheaper if you purchase tickets in advance. Roundtrips are the best value, but even these can
be as expensive as air fares.
» For further travel assistance, call Amtrak, surf its website or ask your travel agent. Note that most small train stations
don't sell tickets. Instead you must book them with Amtrak over the phone or buy online. Some small stations have no
porters or other facilities, and trains may stop there only if you have bought a ticket in advance.
» Amtrak offers some good-value USA Rail Passes.
» Children aged between two and 15 years travel for half of the adult fare only when accompanied by an adult. Kids un-
der two are free.
» Seniors aged 62 years and over are entitled to a 15% discount (with some limitations) on adult fares.
» M embers of the American Automobile Association (AAA; 866-625-3601; www.colorado.aaa.com ) get 10%
discount and students with a Student Advantage or ISIC card (I SIC; www.isiccard.com ) get 15%. Active military per-
sonnel, their spouses and dependents get a 10% discount and Veterans Advantage card holders get 15%.
