quires extensive preparation, both offer plenty of loops and other shorter ride possibilities.
If time is short, go up the road to Fruita, where numerous sights are an easy pedal north
of the village.
Other Activities
Fine climbing is found in Unaweep Canyon and Monument Canyon in the Colorado Na-
tional Monument. Visit Summit Canyon Mountaineering ( Click here ) for climbing equip-
ment, books, topographic maps and tips on where to go.

cellent operator is fully licenced on all BLM and NPS land and runs extended excursions
on isolated, pristine sections of western Colorado's rivers. Day trips raft the Ruby and
Horsethief Canyons. The Yampa River multiday offers great rapids and excellent scenery,
running through Dinosaur National Monument following the route of mid-19th-century
explorer John Wesley Powell.

Grand Junction has abundant accommodations. If you're blowing through town on the
highway, the I-70 exit for Horizon Dr is downright silly with hotels from just about every
major chain. The walkable downtown is more pleasant, with higher-end chains flourish-
ing.
Skip Grand Junction's RV-loaded private camping for some of the excellent state and
national land in the area.

River State Park

the Colorado, it's five small parks in one. The Fruita Section is within walking distance of
Dinosaur Journey ( Click here ) and has over 60 sites, including a nice loop for tents along
a small lake.
