Briar Rose

( 970-453-9948; www.briarrosechophouse.com ; 109 Lincoln Ave; mains $21-44; 4-10pm; ) Set in a
magnificent Old West frame and on the site of Breck's original saloon, this spot is named
after the famed Briar Rose gold mine on Peak 10. And while it's first and foremost a cho-
phouse, small plates (think shishito peppers, chorizo, mussels and escargot) are served in
the dining room and saloon. Fine dining doesn't get any more atmospheric in Brecken-
ridge.

( www.downstairsaterics.com ; 111 S Main St; 11am-midnight) Downstairs at Eric's is a Breckenridge
institution. Locals flock to this game-room-style basement joint for the brews, burgers and
delicious mashed potatoes. There are over 100 beers (20 on tap) to choose from and
plenty of sports bar-arcade action.
BAR
Kava Cafe
OFFLINE MAP GOOGLE MAP
( www.kavabreck.com ; 209 N Main St; 7:30am-5pm) This hole-in-the-wall and historic log-cabin
cafe is the kind of place in which ragged miners may have procured dry goods back in the
day. These days it makes sandwiches and coffee, but is notable for its three specialties:
fresh-squeezed lemonade, made-to-order mini donuts and kava ($7.50, two servings).
The latter is a Polynesian root that's been used ceremonially for centuries. Funky,
earthy and served at room temperature, it's a natural relaxant and a great way to unwind at
the end of the day. Take it home and pair it with your outdoor hot tub: niceness!
