Overlooking Grand Lake, this ecofriendly mountain resort, in a beautiful
setting perched with a view of the lake and mountains, is among the best-value accom-
modation in Colorado. Rooms and dorms are simple and clean, and guests gather around
the fire or grand piano in the book-lined common room downstairs.
Families and larger groups may also want to look into the Shadowcliff cabins, which
are along the river. Shadowcliff also hosts a number of sustainability workshops, and the
property abuts hiking trails into Rocky Mountain National Park. Reservations are essen-
tial. A two-night minimum stay is required for rooms.

these are a collection of privately owned cabins managed by one company. There's a
range of prices, but quality varies widely too. This is good for a family or large group; for
the best all-round stays rent either cabin 17 or 23.

This grocer, right at the en-
trance to town, is a good place to pick up supplies when heading into the park, and the
best grocery store in Grand Lake. It has a deli counter for to-go meals and a small supply
of basic camping equipment.

Consider yourself lucky if you find
yourself rolling into Grand Junction half-starving on a Sunday morning. The Fat Cat does
