Getting There & Away
Served by the largest airport in the US, crisscrossed by major highways and intersected by
one of the country's few Amtrak lines, it's easy to get to and from Denver.
AIR
Denver International Airport is a major hub for several American carriers, including Fron-
tier Airlines and United Airlines. Private jets and charters tend to be serviced through
Centennial Airport to the south and Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport (between Den-
ver and Boulder).
Denver International Airport (DIA;
information 303-342-2000; www.flydenver.com ; 8500 Peña Blvd;
24hr;
) Twenty-four miles from downtown, DIA is connected with I-70 exit 238 by the
12-mile-long Peña Blvd. The facility has an automated subway that links the terminal to
three concourses. Concourse C is almost 1 mile from the terminal, hence the need for
automated transport of people and baggage, and a little extra time for finding your way
around.
DIA is a major air hub and one of the country's busiest facilities. In all, DIA has 53 sq
miles of land, making it the biggest airport in the country by area. The main terminal has a
teflon-coated fiberglass roof that peaks out to mirror the mountains in the background, and
there are always interesting public-art exhibits to help you kill time.
BUS
Greyhound ( 800-231-2222; www.greyhound.com ) and affiliate TNM&O offer frequent buses on
routes along the Front Range and on transcontinental routes. All buses stop at the Denver
Bus Center.
The Colorado Mountain Express (CME; 800-525-6363; www.coloradomountainexpress.com ; DIA; )
has shuttle services from DIA, downtown Denver or Morrison to Summit County, includ-
ing Breckenridge and Keystone ($35 to $49, 2½ hours) and Vail ($45 to $82, three hours).
