( 303-623-3926; www.eltacodemexicodenver.com ; 714 Santa Fe Dr; mains $5-9; 7am-10pm Sun-Thu, to 11pm
Fri & Sat; ; 1 RTD) Forget about ambience - it's a big yellow counter, fluorescent lights
and a couple of slouching figures shoveling down tacos - but it's all too easy to forgive
when you rip into the chili relleno burrito - a glorious disaster of peppers, cheese, refried
pinto beans and salsa verde.

7am-3pm Sun-Wed, to 10pm
Thu-Sat; 11 RTD) It does supper and sandwiches, but the decadent pastries are reason
enough to visit this lovely Washington Park cafe. The hardest to resist is the red velvet
hedgehog - a moist red cake covered in cream cheese icing and shaped like a little mon-
ster. The brunch menu, crowned by an excellent salmon Benedict, is a neighborhood fa-
vorite.

( 303-777-3505; www.beatriceandwoodsley.com ; 38 S Broadway; small plates $9-13; 5-11pm Mon-Fri,
10am-2pm & 5-10pm Sat & Sun; 0 RTD) Beatrice and Woodsley is the most artfully designed
dining room in Denver. Chainsaws are buried into the wall to support shelves, there's an
aspen growing through the back of the dining room and the feel is that of a mountain cab-
in being elegantly reclaimed by nature. The menu of small plates is whimsical and
European inspired . Mix up two or three with some hyper-kinetic alcoholic elixirs.
