Day Four
Devote an entire morning to the Da Vinci Code delights of Rosslyn Chapel (
Click here ) , on the southern fringes of the city. This 15th-century church is a
monument to the stonemason's art, and so crammed with arcane symbolism that it has in-
spired countless conspiracy theories about possible links to the Knights Templar and the
quest for the Holy Grail. Have lunch at the chapel's coffee shop.
Return to the city centre to spend the afternoon browsing the boutiques and de-
partment stores of the New Town , while soaking up the atmosphere of the
world's best-preserved Georgian townscape. Take an hour or so to wander around the Scot-
tish National Portrait Gallery ( Click here ), which leads you entertainingly through Scot-
tish history via portraits of famous personalities.
Take an early-evening stroll through Princes Street Gardens ( Click here ) then
wander down Leith Walk to Joseph Pearce's ( Click here ) for a gin and tonic be-
fore tucking into a tasty organic dinner at the delightful Gardener's Cottage ( Click here ) ;
book ahead. Round off the evening with some live jazz at the Jam House ( Click here ) , or
a comedy act at The Stand ( Click here ) .
