Eating in M e đ ugorje

For something a little more atmospheric and fun, head for Gardens Restaurant (near the
post-office end of the main drag). The ground-floor bar, which feels a bit like a transplanted
British pub, serves only drinks; you can order tasty international cuisine in the classy din-
ing room upstairs, and the namesake garden terrace out back. Somewhat youthful, but still
respectable, it's a nice place to unwind at the end of a long pilgrimage (10-14-KM pastas
and pizzas, 14-24-KM main courses, daily 10:00-23:00, Antunovi ć a 66, tel. 036/650-499,

(Herceg Ethno Village) is a completely artificial but undeniably appealing faux-village of
new but old-looking Bosnian dry-stone buildings wedged between industrial areas and of-
fice parks. With slate roofs, inviting ponds, playgrounds, a vineyard, a small farm, and a
big amphitheater, this sprawling complex includes 50 buildings, housing a restaurant, a big
hotel,giftshops,andmore.Designedasaretreatcenterforchurchgroupsonpilgrimage,it's

this—completely artificial but utterly charming. The industrial-size, smoky restaurant has a
menu of very well-executed Bosnian and Croatian food (6-15-KM starters, 13-25-KM main
dishes), while the hotel has 71 rooms (Db-€72, Trome đ a b.b., tel. 036/653-400, www.etno-
