In-Depth Information
quiet ride is the Harquail Bypass. This road, which links Seven Mile Beach
with the airport area, usually has light traffic and is lined with tropical
vegetation.
AUTHORS' NOTE
: Two-wheel enthusiasts will
find that the East End is probably the best area
in Grand Cayman for leisurely bicycle trips. The
grade is flat and traffic is light.
Call Cayman Cycle Rentals (
345-945-4021) or stop by the offices at
Coconut Place on West Bay Road, the Hyatt Regency Grand Cayman, or
Treasure Island Resort, all on Seven Mile Beach. Ten-speed mountain bi-
cycles are also available here. Soto's 4x4 also rents bikes at their Seven
Mile Beach location (
345-945-2424). Take your pick on Seven Mile
Beach: taxi or rental car, pedal or foot power. They're all good options.
Bicycling, as well as walking, is also a good option in West Bay. With quiet
neighborhood streets throughout much of this area of the island, you'll
find good opportunities for foot and pedal power.
On Foot
With the low crime rate in the Cayman Islands, travel on foot is fun and
safe. Walking is the easiest way to get around George Town, especially
along the waterfront area. Remember, however, to look right when cross-
ing streets.
Guided Tours
Guided tours are an excellent way for first-time visitors to get a good over-
view. They are available from most taxi drivers for about US $37.50 per
hour for four persons; you can also check with your hotel tour desk for pos-
sibilities. Here are several tour operators that offer varying packages:
