The steps for saving and opening data files are almost exactly the same in
each application, so mastering it in one program gives you a head start in
other programs.
Ctrl+S is the keyboard shortcut for the Save command; Ctrl+N is the shortcut for the New command (to start
a new file); and Ctrl+O is the shortcut for the Open command (to open an existing file).
TIP
Navigating the file system is the same in the Save and Open dialog boxes
as it is in Windows Explorer, which you learned to use in
Chapter 5.
You
can move between volumes and folders, select favorite locations from the
Favorites list, and so on. Figure 7.16 points out the navigation controls
in the Save As dialog box in Word, for example.
