road at Puente Yurinaki are the higher waterfalls of Catarata Velo de la Novia and
Catarata Bayoz . Agencies in La Merced or Tarma arrange tours.
There is a colorful daily market in La Merced. An interesting weekend market visited
by local indígenas (people of indigenous descent) is held at San Luis de Shuaro, 22km
beyond La Merced. Asháninka tribespeople occasionally come into La Merced to sell han-
dicrafts.
Sleeping
La Merced has most of the decent digs; San Ramón sports some luxury hotels.

You don't have to look far in the central blocks to find a cheap hospedaje for S20 per per-
son or less. A clean option is Hospedaje Santa Rosa (Av 2 de Mayo 447) .

S90/130; ) The best of two decent new hotels opened in central La Merced, the air-
conditioned rooms here are ginormous and all come with fridges and sparkling bathrooms.
Breakfast is enjoyed in a cheerful setting and views are mostly onto Parque Integración.

sizeable, well-decorated, airy rooms and a restaurant. Two doubles have actual baths.
GUESTHOUSE

beds look almost lost; there are writing desks, fans, cable TV and spotless bathrooms.
Street-facing rooms are very noisy.

know it. Bright, inviting hallways lead to rooms with fans, cable TV and hot showers. A
top-floor restaurant serves decent food while offering good town views.
